Kevin's actions
At Home
Harangue a corporation about labeling their packaging
Corporations need to label all their packaging with its disposition. We need to bother them until they do. Also, we need to tell lawmakers to make companies do this. I will try to do this. If a piece of packaging is not recyclable, a company should have to acknowledge their choice and stamp it on the packaging for everyone to see.

Dig deeper into store drop-off plastic film recycling
I will research hard to answer the following questions: I’ve read in some places that HDPE films (like cereal bags that are in boxes) can go in the store drop-off containers, but I’ve also heard the opposite. Which is true? Similarly, I’ve read PP bags can go in there. Is that true? If LDPE bags (grocery/shopping bags) are the main thing for store drop-off, can LDPE foam also go in the store drop-off? It can’t go in curbside recycling. Do the stores in my area *actually* recycle the bags that go in the drop-off containers, or do they just throw them out? Some investigators have found bad behavior.
At Home
Get bulk mulch from the city on my bike
The city provides bulk mulch for use by residents, you just have to pick it up. I’m going to bike to it and carry it in my bike trailer rather than buying mulch in bags.
Food
Make Your Own
I will try a new recipe or food preparation method, such as canning, pickling, making yogurt, or baking granola bars or bread.
At Home
Remove paper labels from plastic mailer envelopes
I’ve collected plastic mailer envelopes for months, or maybe even a year, because they can be recycled by store drop-off. However, the paper labels need to be removed first. I need to sit down with a hairdryer/heat gun and actually do the removal for this mountain of bags.
Food
Shop the Bulk Bins
Each trip to the grocery store I will purchase 1 products from the bulk section using my own containers.
Plastics 101
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a documentary film about plastic waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.
Plastics 101
Learn about bio-based, biodegradable and compostable plastic
I will learn about what different descriptions and marketing terms mean when used on plastics.
Plastics 101
Read Plastic-Free Challenge emails
I will read through the three emails each week to learn more about plastic and get ideas on how to use less.

Kevin Anderson 2/25/2024 12:08 PMI made my own greek yogurt. With my off-brand instapot it is confusingly easy and cheap. You can make ricotta from the whey runoff too.-
Kevin Anderson 2/26/2024 9:16 AMFor starter, I just used a blob of my store-bought yogurt. -
