Wes's actions
On-the-go
Refill travel toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me
Food
Skip Single-Use Plastic for Freezing Food
I will use reusable containers when freezing food and opt for glass or metal when purchasing new containers.
Food
Stop Buying Water
I will stop buying water and instead use water from the tap or invest in a water filter if water quality is a concern.
Plastics 101
Avoid Harmful Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polyvinyl, polystyrene and polycarbonate (#3,#6 and #7).
Plastics 101
Read Plastic-Free Challenge emails
I will read through the three emails each week to learn more about plastic and get ideas on how to use less.
At Home
Choose Natural Clothing Fibers
I will purchase clothing made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, acrylic or spandex.
On-the-go
Visit a packaging-free store
I will visit a co-op or zero waste store to check out my local options for bulk products and plastic-free items.
Food
Shop the Bulk Bins
Each trip to the grocery store I will purchase 2 products from the bulk section using my own containers.
Plastics 101
Know the Numbers
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn more about what the symbols on plastics mean.
Pets
Clean Up Pet Hair with Reusables
I will use a reusable lint brush or vacuum to remove pet hair from clothes, carpets, and furniture.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Wes Baish 1/17/2024 3:16 PMNot all plastics are recyclable, and that's ok! It's important to instead focus on reducing consumption of plastic products in the first place. -
Wes Baish 1/09/2024 10:32 AMI've been using beeswax food wrap instead of plastic film for food covers for short term storage. I have the worst time tearing that stuff off the roll anyway. -
Wes Baish 1/08/2024 3:52 PMPro tip: while chances are good your spent spray bottle is recyclable, the spray mechanism itself is not. Simply unscrew the spray nozzle from the bottle for waste disposal and don't forget to check if the bottle is a recyclable material! -
Wes Baish 1/04/2024 2:07 PMDon't go craving the tangy zip of microplastics in your single use water bottles! -
Wes Baish 1/03/2024 4:29 PMHey you daily reminder the sticker on your produce is not compostable.-
