At Home
Skip the Dryer Sheets
I will replace dryer sheets with a reusable alternative or use nothing at all.
At Home
REUSE TRASH BAGS BEFORE PURCHASING NEW
I will reuse existing bags such as pet food bags, grocery bags, or online shopping bags to line my trash bins (or go without plastic liners) and offset using as many new bags as possible.
At Home
WASH COLD, LINE DRY
I will wash my clothing in cold water and hang it to dry to reduce the amount of microplastic shedding and to prolong the life of my garments.
At Home
Swap Sponges for Longer Lasting Reusable Options
I will ditch the sponge and use a reusable or compostable option such as a brush, scrubber or dishrag instead.
At Home
Extend the Life of Electronics
Manufacturers want you to replace your phones every year. I will keep my phone for at least 3 years and make any necessary repairs or updates to keep it functioning as long as possible.
Food
Cook Meals with Zero Plastic Waste
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Food
Ditch the plastic baggies or wrap
I will ditch zippered plastic bags and/or plastic wrap and switch to reusable containers or wrap for food storage.
Food
Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will avoid 5 plastic bags each shopping trip by not bagging my produce or using reusable produce bags.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeWhat maintenance steps do you take to keep your electronics in good working order?
Tristan Bartosevic 2/09/2026 8:48 PMI always try and take care of all my electronics and keep them for as long as I can. I try not to keep my phone plugged in all night, that way I don't ruin the battery and I always have a case and a screen protecter on! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeWhat are some of the challenges or benefits you have experienced using reused bags instead of a bag purposely designed to hold trash?
Tristan Bartosevic 2/09/2026 8:44 PMOne challenge would be the wear and tear on the bags. But I think it is working great, I no longer have to buy as many bags each week. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeHow difficult (or easy!) has it been for you to cut dryer sheets from your laundry routine?
Tristan Bartosevic 2/09/2026 8:42 PMIt has been pretty easy I would say. Out of instinct I go to put it in but I remember to skip it and it still works out great! I have also been trying to hang dry my clothes completely skipping the dryer! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeHow do you tackle hang drying clothes during cold winter months?
Tristan Bartosevic 2/09/2026 8:38 PMI like to wash my clothes early in the day so they can dry all day long and dry out over the night so they are dried up. This also helps me plan ahead with my clothes for the next day and sometimes the week! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some low-waste or reusable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable? Are there any items where it would be difficult to avoid plastic waste?
Tristan Bartosevic 2/03/2026 11:30 AMThe majority of my kitchen has single-use plastic items such as water bottles, Ziploc bags, plastic wrap, and snack wrappers. I could reduce the amount of waste I generate by switching to reusable containers or water bottles. But chips and other things in plastic packaging will be hard to avoid.-
Mariaan Mullah 2/03/2026 11:42 AMI agree especially if they are convenient for on the go. There are reusable ziplocs that I have seen that work a lot!!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhy do you think these products have so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?
Tristan Bartosevic 2/03/2026 11:22 AMCompanies use a ton of plastic packaging because it’s cheap, protects stuff from getting ruined, and makes products look good on shelves. It mostly helps the companies save money, helps shoppers a little with convenience, and messes things up for the environment.
