I shopped at Lakewinds today and came home with fresh veggies in bags I brought from home, cartons of orange juice, meat wrapped in paper from the butcher, bulk nuts and craisins in paper bags, & other food in compos-table containers - all told, no plastic.

Groceries can be tricky to go plastic-free. Great job!

Love that you brought your own bag and had plastic free options at the store you went to.

When shopping for groceries today, I purchased milk in a carton which can be recycled rather than in a plastic bottle. I brought bags from home for my fresh vegetables and bought no vegetables already packaged in plastic.

I have been concerned about the problems with plastic for years and thus I have been avoiding purchasing items in plastic containers or wrapped in plastic for years. I choose to go without rather than purchase items in plastic. At events where water is offered in plastic bottles, I always refuse whatever beverage is offered unless it is not in plastic. I do accept compos-table cups. I joined the challenge to help Minnetonka improve its standing in this regard.

It is hard to choose actions because I have been avoiding the purchase of items in plastic for years. Years ago I stopped using frozen food because it is in plastic. I take my own bags to the grocery stores, including my own bags for produce. I have gone without fruits that are only sold in plastic at the grocery store, which means, for example, I only purchase strawberries, which are a favorite of mine, when I can get them at a farmer's stand in a box.

Berries are the most difficult thing to buy plastic-free! Do you freeze a lot of your own produce when it's seasonal then? I really struggle with this!
