Food
Shop the Bulk Bins
Each trip to the grocery store I will purchase 2 products from the bulk section using my own containers.
Plastics 101
Know the Numbers
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn more about what the symbols on plastics mean.
Plastics 101
Learn about bio-based, biodegradable and compostable plastic
I will learn about what different descriptions and marketing terms mean when used on plastics.
On-the-go
Say no to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can.
Personal Care
Choose sustainable suds
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with solid bars or refillable options.
Food
Stop Buying Water
I will stop buying water and instead use water from the tap or invest in a water filter if water quality is a concern.
Plastics 101
Read Plastic-Free Challenge emails
I will read through the three emails each week to learn more about plastic and get ideas on how to use less.
Plastics 101
Avoid Harmful Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polyvinyl, polystyrene and polycarbonate (#3,#6 and #7).

Sandy Caster 2/28/2026 9:37 AMWith this challenge, I became more aware of the plastic bags used for frozen vegetables. I used to just throw these bags away as curbside recycling does not accept them. Many of the these bags have the recycling symbol and text "Store Drop-off." After checking the website https://how2recycle.info, I was happy to find that nearby stores accept these bags and other bags (e.g. bread bags, cereal bags).-
