  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    On-the-go
Did you find anything at the store that you didn't expect? What was it, and did you find it useful?

Yes, it was the peanut grinder for fresh peanut butter! It was nice to be able to have peanut butter made in front of me and put into a glass jar, rather than plastic.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
How do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?

I enjoy using new or favorite recipes to cook meals or do meal prep for the week - it gives me a weird sense of accomplishment. That said, I need to find ways to make the process quicker as time can be a barrier. I find one of the benefits of preparing our food is that it allows me to waste less. I will often make meals based on what items I have that need to be used up.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Plastics 101
What are some things you can do to avoid using plastic bottles and plastic caps in the first place?

Use reusable water bottles and buy glass bottles/jars when available.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What are the benefits (to people, animals, and the environment) of purchasing clothes made with natural fibers?

I really like buying 100% wool items for their ability to keep you warm/cool depending on the temperature. I also find I have to wash less frequently, which saves water and energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    At Home
What are some of the challenges or benefits you have experienced using reused bags instead of a bag purposely designed to hold trash?

Sometimes there are tiny holes in the bottom of the plastic grocery bags is reuse as garbage bags. Otherwise I think they are a good alternative to buying trash bags for bathroom and bedroom garbage cans.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Which method did you try? Do you prefer reusable containers or reusable wraps?

I made beeswax wraps to use instead of plastic wrap, as well as using reusable glass containers. I think both work for different purposes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
When is it hardest not to use a plastic bag? What can motivate you to stick to your goal in those cases?

When I'm putting something in the freezer it's hard to not use a plastic bag. I'm trying to reuse existing plastic bags for this when possible.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How difficult (or easy!) has it been for you to cut dryer sheets from your laundry routine?

Easy, now I use wool dryer balls
