I've been working on buying in bulk, switching to reusing glass jars to carry my food to work and no longer using a plastic bag to carry things in. I've started to notice a switch in my way of thinking before I leave the store I've even stopped taking a bag at all for small trips, just placing things in my purse or backpack.

What did you give as a gift? Do you think the recipient has ever received a gift like this before? What did they think of it?

I've been giving gifts of experiences with my Daughter. She was upset at first that she wasn't getting that special toy or happy meal, but we made it a challenge that we would go to the park instead or go out to an event to go skating or swimming. She has liked it so far.

I switched my laundry detergent from the liquid in a plastic bottle to the dissolvable sheets.

What items do you keep in your kit? What steps have you taken to help make this a habit and remember to bring your kit with you?

I keep a bowl and a mug and a spoon in my kit so that I don't have to heat up my food in disposable items at work.

This has been an easy switch. I also invested in an electric auto scoop cat box which uses much less litter.

How did conversations with your family about reducing plastic use go? What common values or motivations do you have to take action together?

My kids were excited to look for alternatives and look for uses of our plastic items.

Unfortunately struggling with not using items that I already have like ziplock bags. What do you do when you already own them? Or all the plastic bags I've saved from shopping?

Use the plastic bags you have already and don't buy any more new ones. Wash them and reuse them. Use the plastic shopping bags for garbage can liners, pet waste and taking with you on walks to collect garbage you pick up. Take reusable cloth bags with you shopping so you don't collect any more. I keep bag of shopping bags in the trunk so they are always there.

I am coming across the same issues. Curious to hear what other people think! I know you can recycle plastic bags at some grocery stores/retailers.

I'm looking more at how my household utilizes materials and what we throw out. I'm looking at how to start reusing and repurposing as well as not buying packaging in the first place. Also buying used. With all the used items available, I don't want to purchase many things new again.

Lisa great you recall the first R is to REDUCE. Don't buy plastic in the first place, then you won't have to worry about how to recycle. Buying used is my first go to now. I rarely go to large retailers anymore. Thrift shopping is it!!

Clothing, furniture, electronics, my car! I love to upcycle! I bought a used camper last year and am fixing it up. I love thrifting.
