Pick Up Plastic Litter

I will pick up 2 piece(s) of plastic litter each day and dispose of it responsibly.

COMPLETED 17
DAILY ACTIONS

Plastics 101

I will perform an audit of how many food containers of purchased food are plastic and try to find equivalent food items in non-plastic containerss.

Reduce the number of plastic food containers we bring into our home. I'd like to reduce by three the number of food items we regularly purchase that come in plastic containers.

Use reusable to-go containers

I will use a restaurant's deposit system for reusable cups and/or takeout containers.

DAILY ACTIONS

Re-usable container for take home food

I want to bring a re-usable container the next time I go to a favorite restaurant where we eat and order the specialty dessert at table service along with our meal and then transfer the dessert from the plate to the re-usable take-home container, thereby avoiding the single use plastic container the restaurant typically sends us home with.

At the out-start, I said I would find at least three replacement options for food products that I purchase and use regularly. I have successfully done that finding equivalent products in glass containers for apple sauce, lemon juice (which I use to help prolong the shelf life of certain foods, like guacamole) and vinaigret salad dressing (as much as I like the Newman's Own!). I'm feeling good about this last one as I struggled to find an alternative that suited my tastes.

Other people see me picking up recyclable items along the street, curb and front yard shrubbery. They also see me depositing the stuff in nearby recycling bins.
