Shelly's actions

At Home

Skip the Dryer Sheets

I will replace dryer sheets with a reusable alternative or use nothing at all.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Plastics 101

Read Plastic-Free Challenge emails

I will read through the three emails each week to learn more about plastic and get ideas on how to use less.

COMPLETED 13
DAILY ACTIONS

Plastics 101

Know the Numbers

The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn more about what the symbols on plastics mean.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

At Home

WASH COLD, LINE DRY

I will wash my clothing in cold water and hang it to dry to reduce the amount of microplastic shedding and to prolong the life of my garments.

COMPLETED 8
DAILY ACTIONS

Pets

Invest in a Pooper-Scooper

I will swap out my single-use plastic bags for a pooper-scooper to clean up in my yard.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

On-the-go

Use A Reusable Mug or Cup

I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own collapsible cup.

COMPLETED 7
DAILY ACTIONS

On-the-go

Say no to Styrofoam

Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

On-the-go

Refill travel toiletries

If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Plastics 101

Stop "wishcycling"

Contamination makes the recycling process more difficult. I will review which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my county and recycle only those items.

Overall, I thought the website was not user friendly but being a part of the Plastic-Free Challenge in itself was a good reminder to be mindful of choices I make before purchasing anything.

I don't understand how to earn daily points on this site. I have logged in every day, selected various actions and my dashboard shows that I didn't earn anything 2 out of 5 days. I'm getting frustrated. Where do you find articles to read and how do you earn points for that?

I tried to click on Watch Documentaries and it said I can't add it: This event allows you to select or create 5 one-time challenges. Remove a one-time challenge if you'd like to create a new one.
