Sam's actions
On-the-go
Use A Reusable Mug or Cup
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own collapsible cup.
On-the-go
Use Reusable Water Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
On-the-go
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 1 pieces of plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Plastics 101
Put compostable plastics in the right place
I will make sure any BPI-certified compostable plastic products I use will be disposed of correctly by putting them in my curbside compost/food scraps bin or taking them to a drop-off location and not placing them in the regular recycling.
On-the-go
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Plastics 101
Read Plastic-Free Challenge emails
I will read through the three emails each week to learn more about plastic and get ideas on how to use less.
Personal Care
Choose sustainable suds
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with solid bars or refillable options.

Sam Ketcham 2/20/2025 7:47 AMSome thoughts: no plastic = healthier food choices! I wish it was summer because I would be having the plastic-free time of my life at farmers markets! Lunchtime sandwiches wrapped in tin-foil are so much more satisfying than plastic-bag sammies! When in-doubt, think of a thankful sea turtle! -
Sam Ketcham 2/17/2025 7:17 AMWent to a movie yesterday. Knew that the popcorn and soda containers were cardboard but that candy would be a challenge. My solution? Make cookies ahead of time, put them in my pocket, and sneak em' in. SO much better than the overpriced gummy worms that I would have got (which I'm sure probably have a little plastic in them...who even knows what's in those things, anyway?) New habits, new traditions?-

Nice! Sneaking food into movie theaters is exhilarating in general, so the plastic-free motivation is another level experience!

Sam Ketcham 2/14/2025 8:58 AMLittle thought this morning: being more aware of my plastic waste has made me more aware of my food waste, too. Last night I made a 'use before it's bad' soup and it was really good!-

Sam Ketcham 2/11/2025 11:33 AMIt's been sooooo cold, so getting outside to actually pickup plastic around Minne has been a struggle. SO! I've been focusing on some other actions that I can do inside and, in turn, I've been learning a lot! Overall, it's been going well. Going to try and be more active with my updates. Cheers everyone!

Sam Ketcham 2/05/2025 8:45 AMI've been trying to go on daily hour-long walks around the lake over the last few weeks—move my body, mental health, sunshine, etc.—now that I have the purpose of picking up plastic along the way, it's been even easier to get outside on these frigid days!-
