REDUCE MY MILES DRIVEN
I will cut down the miles I drive to reduce microplastic shedding from tires. Alternatives include riding public transit, walking, biking, carpooling and combining trips.
On-the-go
Use reusable to-go containers
I will use a restaurant's deposit system for reusable cups and/or takeout containers or I will bring my own reusable container to take home leftovers.
Food
Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will avoid 3 plastic bags each shopping trip by not bagging my produce or using reusable produce bags.
Food
Swap the Snacks
I will swap 5 prepackaged snacks for unpackaged fruits or veggies or homemade or bulk items each time we need more.
Plastics 101
Complete a waste audit
I will spend 30 minutes conducting a waste audit- including recyclables and compost- to understand how much plastic waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Pets
Prepare Homemade Treats
I will prepare my own pet treats to avoid plastic packaging.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhy do you think these products have so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?
Parker Lange 2/05/2026 10:54 AMI think it's more so a peace of mind for some people, they'd rather use a plastic bag than just throwing their fruits and veggies into the cart uncovered. I think it is serving the consumer more than anybody, but it's still unnecessary. -
Parker Lange 2/05/2026 10:47 AMI hope everyone's having a good day. Let's keep putting in that hard work to win the plastic-free challenge. But more importantly, let's save our environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOn-the-goWhat did you think about your experience with the returnable container system?
Parker Lange 2/05/2026 10:44 AMI've been practicing this for quite some time now, I've always meal prepared my lunches and breakfasts since I started taking the gym seriously. I've found it convenient and it saves me money. And most importantly, it helps our environment. -
Parker Lange 2/03/2026 1:09 PMI hope everyone's had a good start to their Plastic Free Challenge! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat do you enjoy about active transportation? What has been difficult?
Parker Lange 2/03/2026 1:06 PMIt didn't get in any of my preferred alternative transportation, which is biking when it's nice out. But I did take the bus to school today instead of driving. I enjoyed being able to get some of my schoolwork done on the bus on my way to class. Driving myself is typically a lot easier i just don't want to put the miles on my car, it's a lot between work and school, unfortunately. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPetsDoes making your own pet treats seem like a habit you can keep up in the long term? What else can you do to reduce your use of plastic packaging that can come from taking care of your pet's needs?
Parker Lange 2/03/2026 12:57 PMYes, it's definitely a habit I plan on continuing. I've been baking my dog his own treats for over a year. He really enjoys his fresh treats, so ill continue making them for him. As for what I can do to reduce plastic from packaging, is to try not to order treats when I could make them for him. -
Parker Lange 1/27/2026 11:34 AMI'm excited to start the plastic-free challenge and see how I can make a difference!
