Ditch Disposable Decorations

I will avoid using disposable decorations, such as balloons and plastic table coverings, for special occasions.

Plastics 101

Stop "wishcycling"

Contamination makes the recycling process more difficult. I will review which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my county and recycle only those items.

    • 32 sets of plastic ware kept out of landfills

It has been an honor to meet and learn from all of you! 😃

My final results: 214 cups, 29 sets of plastic ware - I still contend those knives are extra useless - and containers scooted away from landfills. I also saved 26 pounds of carbon dioxide and officially spent 20 minutes learning.

So earlier in the week, I helped a neighbor clean up, told them where the UPS Store was so they could shred some documents from previous seasons’ taxes, and taught them about what Minneapolis recycles for both the inorganic (light blue) cart and the green (organic). I also told them to buy BPI bags since that’s what the city wants us to use.

Anyway, they thanked me and gifted me a few items including a Trader’s Joe pecan and pumpkin oatmeal packet. I used that when I baked oatmeal peanut butter cookies earlier today. Sadly, I was only able to use the few cups of both brown and table sugar we had left since both of them were so old. We don’t bake from scratch much since Grandma died about a decade ago. Also I need to buy baking soda- I used a teaspoon of baking powder instead of the recommended amount of baking soda in the recipe. The cookies were delicious and I still have dough left over.

Did someone forget to allow “02/29/2024” into the “Show updates from everyone” field? 🤨

One of the biggest things I’m going to do for next year’s challenge is promote team KFAI more on the individual shows’ social media. The other is invite Mom.

At least Lunds and Byerly’s deliver groceries in paper bags. Too bad they don’t use reusable ones that can stand up to wet conditions. ☹️

And I just prevented ten more disposable cups yesterday, so I’m over 2,000 in total. ❌🥤2K.

Shopped at the Downtown Lund’s and Byerly’s this morning and bought a couple of reusable bags for produce. Since they need to be washed between uses though, would a similar bag for meat actually be viable or is this another sign my family should switch over to plant protein? 🥜 I’m still buying Montre’al seasoning and steak sauce regardless.

Over 2,000 bottles not in the landfills and nearly 2,000 cups! Awesome job, everyone! 🥳

I’m considering buying BPI tall kitchen bags, and milk from a glass bottle.

The glass-bottle milk is the BEST. :) I've been using it to make yogurt, works great, tastes great.
