Pick Up Plastic Litter
I will pick up 5 piece(s) of plastic litter each day and dispose of it responsibly.
Plastics 101
Put compostable plastics in the right place
I will make sure any BPI-certified compostable plastic products I use will be disposed of correctly by putting them in my curbside compost/food scraps bin or taking them to a drop-off location and not placing them in the regular recycling.
At Home
Shop Used
I will buy secondhand goods to reduce the demand for new plastic products and avoid packaging.
Plastics 101
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a documentary film about plastic waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.
At Home
Make Green Cleaners
I will make 2 of my own cleaning products (cleaners, detergents, soaps) instead of buying them in new spray bottles each time.
At Home
WASH COLD, LINE DRY
I will wash my clothing in cold water and hang it to dry to reduce the amount of microplastic shedding and to prolong the life of my garments.
Food
Cook Meals with Zero Plastic Waste
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Food
Skip Single-Use Plastic for Freezing Food
I will use reusable containers when freezing food and opt for glass or metal when purchasing new containers.

Ashley Nix 2/08/2026 7:59 PMI've done all of my grocery shopping today using reusable bags from home. This is something I don't normally think to do. I also washed all of my laundry in cold water this weekend and lined dried in my basement. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some low-waste or reusable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable? Are there any items where it would be difficult to avoid plastic waste?
Ashley Nix 2/08/2026 7:55 PMMost of my containers for spices and others seasonings are single use. The way I can reduce the use of single use containers is buying in bulk and transferring into glass containers. It will always be difficult to avoid plastic waste because everything is sold in a plastic container or some sort of plastic wrap. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeWhat kinds of items have been easy for you to find used? What has been hard?
Ashley Nix 2/08/2026 7:50 PMI find it hard to find anything used if you do not go to a second hand store. I have managed to thrift containers and clothes so far. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Ashley Nix 2/04/2026 7:48 PMI felt like I was contributing to my community. It's interesting that such a small act can feel so good. I'm excited to do it again tomorrow. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeHow do you tackle hang drying clothes during cold winter months?
Ashley Nix 2/04/2026 12:44 PMI made a clothes line in my basement that makes it easy to dry my clothes without using the dryer.-
Abiha Juwairiya 2/04/2026 4:05 PMHi Ashley! That's a smart idea! I've been using chairs and the stair railing in my house but I always run out of space. I'll definitely look into moving some of it to the basement.
