At Home
Ditch the Disposable Cleaning Wipes
I will replace my disposable cleaning wipes with a reusable brush or cloth.
At Home
Skip the Dryer Sheets
I will replace dryer sheets with a reusable alternative or use nothing at all.
At Home
WASH COLD, LINE DRY
I will wash my clothing in cold water and hang it to dry to reduce the amount of microplastic shedding and to prolong the life of my garments.
At Home
Make Green Cleaners
I will make 1 of my own cleaning products (cleaners, detergents, soaps) instead of buying them in new spray bottles each time.
At Home
Choose Natural Clothing Fibers
I will purchase clothing made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, acrylic or spandex. Try prioritizing buying used clothing before buying new.
At Home
Extend the Life of Electronics
Manufacturers want you to replace your phones every year. I will keep my phone for at least 3 years and make any necessary repairs or updates to keep it functioning as long as possible.
Plastics 101
Read Plastic-Free Challenge emails
I will read through the three emails each week to learn more about plastic and get ideas on how to use less.
Plastics 101
Know the Numbers
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn more about what the symbols on plastics mean.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeHow have you modified your cleaning routine to make sure you aren't using disposable wipes? Are you satisfied with the results?
Delane Wetterlin 2/09/2026 8:31 AMI have been using an old towel that we cut into pieces. It has worked very well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeHow difficult (or easy!) has it been for you to cut dryer sheets from your laundry routine?

REFLECTION QUESTIONAt HomeHow do you tackle hang drying clothes during cold winter months?
Delane Wetterlin 2/09/2026 8:29 AMI have a long wired shelf in my laundry room - works great for hanging clothes. I also have a drying rack that comes in very handy for socks and other small items.-
Lynn Broaddus 2/09/2026 9:05 AMIt's pretty easy. We hang items in two ways: on wooden drying racks and (for shirts) on hangers (there are plenty of sturdy pipes in our basement ceiling to hang them from). Because we do it in the room with the furnace, which is kind of warm, things dry quite quickly.
