I've made some changes and hope to do many more. Plastic alternatives are available and more are being produced and marketed.

I've discovered that sometimes the garbage cans need no bags at all.

When buying new, I try to purchase only natural fibers. I also purchase many items in secondhand stores and stick to natural fibers when possible. Why would I want my clothes made of petroleum products?!

After several days of walking my routine 2.5-mile walk, I'm struggling to find more plastic waste!! It's time to start a new route and clean up that area. What a good problem to have!

I always grow my vegetables and fruits with natural fertilizers and insecticides. These often cost less and keeps the toxins out of our food. I process the food without preservatives and can use lower salt recipes.

Dogs will ingest a bit of their toys. It’s astounding what dogs will swallow. Better to have the dogs ingest a bit of cotton, wool, or leather than plastic or other synthetics.

I'm continuing and adding to my plastic recycling.

I'll make sure that I only compost bags and other materials that are clearly marked and certified.

My experience for the most part is positive. Often, when I call, I have to leave a voice message or a message with the legislator's aide. Some return calls, but most do not. My representative at the state level usually responds. My senator seldom does so. I have found that I can usually share my message within 1-2 minutes. Occasionally, I'll...
