  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    On-the-go
How difficult was this action for you? What made it easy or difficult?

One easy step is that I have reusable bag sets in the back of each vehicle and another at the back door (for when I'm not using a car to go to the store) so I'm always prepared. As soon as they are empty (and sometimes also washed), they go back to their assigned spots so I'm always prepared.

The challenge of this one is that when I ORDER groceries, some stories don't give me a choice to use my own bags. So I find I have to go into stores (sacrificing time) or be more selective about which stores I order grocery pick-up from so I can use reusable bags.

    Plastics 101
What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

I was surprised that my household is doing as well as we are. Always room for improvement, but we've made some big changes over the past few years--lots of cleaning products that are plastic-free, using our own bags for shopping (though shipped items still come in plastic often), no plastic bottles (after baby bottles!), minimizing takeout containers, etc. I still feel like we are using too much plastic and this highlighted some other ways that we could consider changes. Nonetheless, I'm glad to know that our choices are reducing our ecological impact.

How does it feel to have a more or less minimalist baby? Do you feel pressure to have specialty items?

I have appreciated handmedowns for my child since before she was born. Recently, we are encouraging people to think about experiences as gifts for her because we don't need so much stuff, much less plastic, around us.
