If you're looking, there are lots of plastic-free options!

One pro of avoiding plastic: just not buying stuff in general, especially in the food dept. I've been eating a lot of "old groceries" I had.

Reflection from last night - As a commitment to waste less food, I did the ol' throw all of the veggies you have on a sheet pan season with salt, pepper, toss in olive oil and roast the heck out of them. Popped some feta on the pan to provide a little creamy fat and tossed it with Banza pasta. Delicious, used all of the food, and healthy! Score!

Throughout this challenge, even though I have been terrible at keeping up with posting here and check-ins, it has made me reflect a lot more on my waste. Simple things like bringing your own bags or always having extra reusable bags in the car ACTUALLY add up. BONUS: reusable bags feel way nicer, can hold more, and can have a cool design.

Why use a boring plastic bag when you could use this?

This is my second year doing it. A lot of my habits from last year have stuck, so I'm looking to go a little bit deeper this year.

We got Rainbow Chinese last night. FYI - their take out boxes are compostable. :)

Slightly unrelated to this challenge, but similar vibe. One of my New Year's Resolutions is to make a better effort to fix stuff that's broken, ripped, etc. Recently I sent our coffee machine out to get serviced and we just got it back and it looks and makes coffee like it's brand new. I also ordered some wool fabric from Pendleton to fix a beautiful wool blanket that got eaten by our dog. Repairs for the win!

Can anyone confirm? From what I understand you DONT need to remove labels from plastic before recycling, BUT it probably makes the recycling more efficient if labels are removed. (Hennepin btw)

You are correct, you don't need to remove the labels. Thankfully! Some labels are really tough to get off. Removing labels probably helps reduce contamination? I

Getting set to shop at a new (to me) store in my neighborhood—Marissa's Supermarket. My list is focused on slow, homemade, nourishing food, that's not wrapped in plastic.
